Welcome Eagle Families to DeWitt Perry Middle School! I have the privilege to serve as one of your Assistant Principals!
I am a proud product of CFBISD attending Thompson Elementary, Dan F. Long Middle School and Newman Smith High School. I believe CFBISD is the best at providing each and every student and family with a supportive, safe, diverse and rigorous educational journey. I believe Perry is a family and treat each student, parent and staff member like my own. I want the best for your student in the formative middle school years giving them the foundation to be a successful high school student and beyond.
In 1997, I earned my Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University, College Station. I earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Science from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2011 and my Leadership certificate from Lamar University in 2016. I am a Science geek at heart! Previously, I taught middle school science and was the Middle School Science Specialist for CFBISD prior to my move to administration.
In my free time, I love to swim, read and visit my children at college. I have a son, Sean, who is a senior at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas and a daughter, Mary, who is a freshman at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. My husband and I just celebrated our twenty-fifth anniversary!
I view our families as a team so please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to a terrific year!

Hello Eagle families and community! My name is Matthew Smith, and I am excited to be one of your Assistant Principals (students M-Z). Prior to Perry, I taught 8th grade Social Studies at Blalack Middle School for 6 years, and 5th grade Language Arts at Riverchase Elementary for four years. My entire career has been with CFB, and I’m proud and honored to continue that relationship with this amazing district and community. I am married and have a son and a daughter, both of whom
attend Rosemeade Elementary.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Psychology from Augsburg University in Minneapolis, MN, and after moving to Texas, discovered a true love for education. I then pursued my Masters of Teaching degree from TWU in Denton, and finally my Principal certification from Lamar.
Working with middle school students and families has been the most fulfilling part of my professional life. These years are so important for building confidence, creating useful skills and habits, and learning how to be a successful person both now and in the future. Thank you, Perry families, for the pleasure of working with you and your students. I am looking forward to the wonderful year ahead.
