September is Attendance Awareness Month

September is Attendance Awareness Month

Throughout September, Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is highlighting the importance of regular attendance for all students.

School attendance is essential to academic success and plays a critical role in overall student development. The goal of the Attendance Awareness initiative is to educate individuals and communities about attendance issues and the effects poor attendance can have on a student’s progress.

Oftentimes, students and parents don’t realize how quickly absences, excused or unexcused, can add up. Chronic absence— missing just 18 days per school year— can lead to third graders being unable to master reading, sixth graders failing courses and ninth-graders dropping out of high school.

CFBISD is encouraging students, staff and community members to participate in Attendance Awareness by celebrating with special Spirit Days each Thursday during the month. Additionally, the district has provided printable resources for teachers to help educate their students on the importance of attendance.
